Annie was Graeme Sims' first Border Collie.
I love Border Collies but this one has a very important meaning for me, as she is the one who changed Graeme's life for better and so, undirectly, mine too (see www.graemesimsschool.com to know more).
She was a very beautiful and intelligent rescue dog, who managed to overcome her fears and become a very good sheepdog.
I painted this from the only photograph of her standing up, looking towards sheep in a very confident and proud way. For me this photo represents her greatest moment of life.
In painting terms, my focus is all on the dog, her back fur, face and chest lightened by the sunlight.
The ground and background is meant to be undetailed in order to bring the attention on Annie and the effect is obtained by using a technique usually reserved for watercolour called "wet-in-wet".
This is an acrylic on canvas in a private collection but if you wish to ask any question about this or other ideas you might have in mind, please feel free to contact me.
